FAQ
Questions schools ask before trying Whitechalk.
Understand the category
What is Whitechalk, and what does it do?
Whitechalk is an AI-powered assessment platform for teachers, schools, and coaching institutes. Teachers can generate question papers, build marking schemes with model answers, evaluate handwritten answer sheets, and view student and class analytics — across unit tests, term exams, practice papers, and pre-boards. It is not designed for objective or competitive exam formats.
How does Whitechalk help teachers, principals, students, and parents?
Teachers cut assessment workload by 90%, spending more time on teaching and acting on student insights. Principals get visibility into class and student performance. Students receive personalised, actionable feedback, not just marks. Parents receive a tailored summary showing exactly where their child needs support. Teachers remain in control at every step.
Which boards, classes, and subjects does it support?
Whitechalk currently supports Classes VI–XII for CBSE and ICSE, across Maths, Science, Physics, and Chemistry.
Run an assessment
How does a typical assessment work on Whitechalk?
A teacher generates or uploads a question paper. Whitechalk creates the model answers and marking scheme. Answer sheets are scanned and uploaded — and student details are extracted automatically. Teachers can review and adjust any result before reports are shared with students and parents.
Do we need to change our existing document format?
No. You can upload the question papers or sheets your school already uses. Whitechalk works with your existing format.
How are answer sheets uploaded, and do we need a special scanner?
No special equipment is needed. A clear phone scan is sufficient. Answer sheets can be uploaded by students after the exam, or by teachers or school staff, depending on how your school prefers to manage it.
How do students and parents receive results?
Once evaluation is complete, Whitechalk generates individual student reports with marks, feedback, and areas for improvement. Schools can share these as links, or auto-send them by email or WhatsApp.
What if a student or parent disputes a grade?
Schools can enable an option for students to raise a concern on a specific question or the full paper. The concern is sent to the teacher for review. This is entirely optional and can be turned on or off based on school policy.
AI grading, fairness, and curriculum
Can it reliably read and grade actual student handwriting?
Yes. Whitechalk uses Vision AI, not traditional OCR, to read handwritten answers — including rough work, diagrams, strike-outs, and overwriting. Grading is anchored to the marking scheme, and the AI is capable enough to evaluate answers with sound judgement.
How is consistency and fairness across students ensured?
Every answer sheet is evaluated against the same model solution and marking scheme — built from official textbooks — so grading is consistent across every student. Teachers can review, edit, and handle appeals as an additional check.
Is it aligned to the school curriculum?
Yes. Whitechalk uses official textbooks and board guidelines, and supports multiple marking-scheme types to match your school's standards.
Access, portals, and setup
How do I access Whitechalk, and do students need a portal?
No app or installation needed. Whitechalk opens in any browser on mobile or desktop. Teachers, principals, and admins log in via Google. Students and parents do not need an account — they simply open their report link on any device.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. Whitechalk is fully optimised for mobile — everything works on your phone, no laptop needed.
How do we get started, and how long does it take?
Share your student count, monthly assessment frequency, and teacher email IDs with us. We send a payment link, and your school account is live almost instantly after payment. You can run your next test on Whitechalk. Onboarding support is included — our team works with you through the first few assessment cycles.
Can we try it before committing?
Yes. The 15-day trial includes up to 100 answer sheet evaluations, 2 teacher accounts, and full platform access. We recommend starting with answer sheets from a recent exam so teachers can see results on real school data.
Pricing, billing, and data
How does pricing and billing work?
Pricing is based on your student count and how frequently you assess each month. Choose a monthly or yearly plan, paid in advance — we will share the exact figure once we understand your school's needs. Once payment is complete, we activate accounts for all your teachers, admins, and principal.
Can we get a GST invoice for school records?
Yes. We support institutional billing and provide GST invoices.
Is student data kept private and secure?
Yes. Access is role-based — staff only see data relevant to them. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Student information is never sold or shared with third parties. We comply with all Indian data protection regulations.
